This really surprised me considering the exports man page doesn't mention this at all which makes it seem like a... An alternate way to mount an NFS share from another machine is to add a line to the /etc/fstab file. The line must state the hostname of the NFS server, the directory on the server being exported, and the directory on the local machine where the NFS share is to be mounted.

Peter reported via email that mountd would take 16seconds to reload the exports upon receipt of a SIGHUP for his 72,000+ file system server, which results in a 16sec suspension of the nfsd threads. Network File System (NFS) is a distributed file system protocol originally developed by Sun Microsystems in 1984, allowing a user on a client computer to access files over a network in a manner similar to how local storage is accessed. The exportfs command maintains the current table of exports for the NFS server. The master export table is kept in a file named /var/lib/nfs/etab. This file is read by rpc.mountd when a client sends an NFS MOUNT request. Do you always have to reboot for the nfs exports file? I've added a few IP address to my /etc/exports file and I was wondering if it's possible to enable those IP address without rebooting the box completely?

The Reflection NFS Client standalone product was also included as a component of several Reflection products. Exporting File Systems (/etc/exports) In order to access host file systems or printers using an NFS client, the file systems must be exported. To export a file system or printer, it must be added to the host /etc/exports file. Instead of exporting a number of distinct exports, an NFSv4 client sees the NFSv4 server's exports as existing inside a single filesystem, called the nfsv4 "pseudofilesystem". The linux implementation allows you to designate a real filesystem as the pseudofilesystem, identifying that export with the fsid=0 option; we no longer recommend this. NFS versions 2 and 3 allow both directories and files to be exported. Only directories can be exported for NFS version 4 access. If two entries for the same directory with different versions 2 (or 3) and 4 exist in the /etc/exports file, the exportfs command exports both of the entries.

My Ansible playbook calls an NFS role which installs, configures, and starts NFS. However, the playbook then updates /etc/exports and does an nfs-kernel-server restart". With this sequence of events, NFS wasn't picking up the changes to exports. The key was simply to do a reload instead of a restart in my playbook. The -a flag will export all directories, the -r flag will reexport all directories and remove any old entries, while the -v flag provides verbosity and will output all of the NFS exports. The main advantages over the userland NFS server offered by DRI for the DroboFS are (1) increased performance (more than 60% using dd on a 1GB file), (2) full /proc metrics and stats, and (3) support for mounting remote NFS shares in the case of the DroboFS, as the Drobo5N can mount remote NFS natively. Aug 13, 2018 · NFS clients and servers push file traffic over clear-text connections in the default configuration, which is incompatible with sensitive data. When you change or create exports using Webmin, the exports file is directly updated.
