I'll state the obvious: a.) zram is a module anf b.) it needs to be loaded *early* in the boot process. Add it to the MODULES section in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, regenerate the initramfs files and try again. Create zRam a Memory Compression on Arch Linux. zRam is a virtual memory compression using block devices named /dev/zram using a fast compression algorithm (LZ4) that compress the least recently used (LRU) or inactive space in the memory allows the GNU/Linux kernel to free up more memory with less performance hit.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shnatsel/zram sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install zramswap-enabler The script should work with Linux kernel 2.6.37.1+ . Update: there is now a zram-config package available in the official Ubuntu 12.04 and newer repositories, which does the same thing. for both zram filesystem, and loop mounted filesystem as the previous suggestion, you actually have to enable 'discard' flag to make sure free space is really free. Otherwise, overwritten and deleted files will continue to consume ram space. It increases performance by avoiding paging to disk and using a compressed block device in RAM instead, inside which paging takes place until it is necessary to use the swap space on a hard disk drive. The main difference is that zram provides a compressed block device using RAM for storing data, which acts as a regular and separate swap device. Using zram requires additional configuration in userspace (by using mkswap and swapon) so the RAM-based swap device provided by zram is initialized and configured to be used.

I have done this on two different systems, and in both cases I configured the amount of zram to be only up to half the amount of actual RAM on the system. This ratio the one thing I think could be tweaked, but thus far it works fine. May 22, 2013 · In the AUR, users create a kind of configuration file containing the needed information to compile the source and create an Arch Linux package that can be installed using pacman. The ZRAM package found in the AUR consists of a series of scripts which create compressed RAM devices on boot and configure them as swap areas. The scripts will create as many RAM devices as processors/cores are available being the size of each of one of them the amount of actual physical RAM.

Dec 06, 2019 · A: Nope, it's useless, as zram is a compressed RAM DISK, but zswap is a compressed "writeback" CACHE on swap file/disk. Q : Do i need use swapfc_force_use_loop on swapFC? A : Nope, as you wish really, native swapfile must work faster and it's more safe in OOM condition in comparison to loop backed scenario. Flyspray, a Bug Tracking System written in PHP.

Dec 13, 2019 · Hello, I'm trying to use systemd-swap because my 2GB RPi4 is constantly freezing my large docker containers collection. And I realize that I can't use ZSWAP and have to stick with ZRAM because ZSWAP is not enabled in the kernel. Is there reason for not enabling it? I checked the Arch ARM kernel and they have it enabled. Thanks before.

"The package zramswap AUR provides an automated script for setting up such swap devices with optimal settings for your system (such as RAM size and CPU core number). The script creates one zram device per CPU core with a total space equivalent to the RAM available, so you will have a compressed swap with higher priority than regular swap, which will utilize multiple CPU cores for compressing data."

To remove a swap file, it must be turned off first and then can be removed: # swapoff /swapfile # rm -f /swapfile Finally remove the relevant entry from /etc/fstab.
